Stay in Oranmore Castle Lodge (AKA ‘The Monkey House’).
This stone house in the grounds of Oranmore castle commands a superb panoramic view of GALWAY BAY with its sunsets / bird life / otters and seals. It’s quiet, calm and very beautiful. It is just across the laneway from Oranmore Castle’s wonderful walled organic garden.
The upstairs living space is open-plan, glass-fronted, with a high wooden ceiling and eclectic furniture.
The downstairs comprises 2 double rooms (1 of which is en-suite), a twin room, and a bathroom. (Sleeps 6).
It is a 5 minute walk to Oranmore village with all its amenities, including cafes, restaurants and pubs playing traditional music.
Oranmore is equidistant to Connemara and the Burren for scenic explorations.
Oranmore Castle is a 15th century Norman keep, restored in 1947 by writer Anita Leslie. It was visited by Sir Shane Leslie, friend of W.B. Yeats and Oliver St.John Gogarty, and by sculptress Clare Sheridan, cousin to Winston Churchill.
